For catch and release, avoid using a net when landing fish unless the fish have teeth. The net can scrape off the fish oil and slime which protect it. If your handling bass by the lip, hold the bass vertical. It is possible to break a fish's jaw. If you want to hold the fish horizontal, support the tail or lower body with your other hand.
