The Best Time to Fish - Determining the Best Time of Day For Fishing

Many beginning anglers wonder what the best time to fish is and in this article I'm going to provide some pointers that will help anyone determine the answer to this question. The bottom line is that there is no "best time of day" for fishing, but there are times that fish are more active than others. In other words, this article will show you what to look for in regards to fish activity, but won't tell you that you should be on the water at such and such a time everyday.

The bottom line is that the more active fish are the more likely they will be eating, because at the end of the day that's what 'activity' means in relation to fishing; that fish are eating. So if you want to know the best time to fish, the first thing to keep in mind is the weather.

The weather has a big impact on the activity level of fish, and when I refer to the weather I'm referring specifically to the barometer. As barometric pressure rises and falls fish either become more or less active, which again means that they either feed or don't feed. You should learn the simple ways in which the weather affects fishing, but as a general rule when the barometer is rising, fishing is getting better. If the barometer is falling, fishing is getting worse (but fish are the most active).

The next aspect of determining the best time to fish is the moon. Fish are more or less active during certain phases of the moon. Many beginning or uninformed anglers are completely naive to this simple fact. For example, fish are more active when the moon is new than during other phases, so simply being on the water when the moon is new means you will have more success. The moon is a determining factor in the best time to fish, and using this information to your advantage will make you a more successful angler.

Determining the best time of day for fishing is easier than you might have thought. Using these two forces of Mother Nature (the weather & moon) to your advantage will make you a much more successful angler. I realize this might sound crazy, but it's nonetheless true. Be on the water when the fish are the most active, and then spend time honing your fishing skills. These two things will make you a much more effective angler, no matter which species of fish you target.
