Can of whole corn
Vanilla extract

Preparation:
Drain the water from the can of corn, and leave only about 5 percent water in the can.
Pour enough vanilla in the can until the corn turns a brownish-yellow color (use your own judgement).

1 cup Corn Flakes crumbs
1 Tbsp of corn starch

lah.....premium corn dough ball. No need to refrigerate if using right away. May refrigerate unused
portion but warm to room temperature before using.

UNCLE DEWEY'S CATFISH BAIT

Place about two pounds of leftover shad and a tub of chicken livers with about two cups of bacon grease or vegetable oil in a loosely covered bucket and allow to sit in the sun until the shad liquify.


Add about 6 cups of regular oatmeal,2 cups of yellow cornmeal, a cup of brown sugar and a 4oz package of limburger cheese. stir carefully but thoroughly. Return the bucket to a sunny location for another week for more fermentation.


Thicken with flour or cattail fuzz for bait, or thin with water for chum.

LEATHER LIVER CHICKEN LIVER CATFISH BAIT

Take 2 lbs of chicken liver and 32oz. can of garlic salt.


Lay liver out in layers, sprinkle a heafty amount of garlic salt on it. Add next layer so on and so forth until the liver is all used. Let sit for a couple hours outside. It doesn't have to be in the sun. After a couple hours take the liver and dump into a bucket and start stirring, every 3 or 4 stirs add some more garlic. Do this until you have about 1/4 cup of garlic left. Put it in the garage for about 9 or 10 days, make sure its covered. When you get ready to use it dump the rest of the garlic salt in, stir, and go fishin.


The salt will make the garlic alot tougher. You can use a single wire hook doing it this way.


Instead of Garlic try Anise, Vanilla or what ever you want. Just make sure you add salt (alot) because this is what makes it tough.

Commercial dough baits are available, but it's more fun to make your own. Most involve ingredients with, shall we say, a pronounced bouquet. Catfish have an incredible sense of smell, and are attracted to anything strong smelling. Here are a few recipes to get you started.

Catfish Melange

Melt 1 lb.of Velveta cheese for about 1 min. in microwave. Then chop 6-8 oz. of raw chicken livers. Add to the cheese. Next, add a healthy spoon of minced garlic or garlic powder. Then mix in 1 can of dog, or cat food, and add 1 dozen minnows and enough flour to give a dough consistency. Mix in a food processor.
This bait works best on treble hooks or bait tubes.

Cajun Bait

In a blender, mix about 1 lb. of cut fish (rotten minnows work great). Add 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 Cup parmesean cheese, 1 box cherry Jello, 1/4 cup molasses, 3 Tbsps of onion salt and garlic salt, 1 cup bread crumbs, and.3 Tablespoons of soy sauce. Remove this mixture to a mixing bowl. Add flour to thicken then work into a dough by hand. To use, simply pinch off a small chunk, roll it into a ball and place on a #4 treble hook.

Old Man Liver

In a blender place a pound of chicken livers, a half a box of cornflakes, 1/2 cup garlic powder, 1/3 cup of each: parmesan cheese-molasses-sugar. Blend well place in small dishes and freeze what you don't plan to use as this bait will spoil very quick. Best if used when fresh. Add flour to thicken if needed.

Chick-a-Beer Bait

3 cups corn meal
3 cups flour
2 cups oatmeal
1 or 2 beers, preferably flat and old..
1 dozen or so old minnows, shad, tuna, mackerel or salmon, with the oil.
10 oz corn syrup
1 tub chicken livers and whatever else you feel like putting in there, shrimp, dog food, cat food, road kill whatever.
1 container big enough to hold all of that and be completely sealed off, I mean completely!!

After you mix all that together, add milk or more beer to get the proper peanut butter-like consistency. Seal it all off and let it sit as long as you want. I go about 2 or 3 weeks with it outside, but when crack it open be prepared, because the pungent aroma will knock you for a loop!. If it thickens up too much I spray it down with some WD40 and mix it all up.

Catfish Soap-Bait
4 bars of Ivory soap (Family size)
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of water
plastic ice trays

In a small pot, combine sugar and water and dissolve. Shave soap into the water mixture and heat over a low fire. Stir until soap is melted, but still thick.

You can use shrimp, mullet, shad or other bait fish then add surf water and mix it up in a blender. Once it's all ready, you can place it in freezer bags and freeze it to keep it fresh until you need it.

Lye Soap- Using Lye Soap to catch catfish is a technique that has been in use for quite some time. So how can you do it for yourself? Start out making this bait by pouring lye into a container then stir in water until the lye is dissolved and then let it sit until it reaches room temperature.

Next, place animal fat on the stovetop until it melts and then let it cool down some. Before the fat gets cold, you should start distributing the lye mixture into the animal fat and stir with a wooden spoon until it becomes thick. Now you need to add an ingredient such as cheese, garlic salt, anise extract, etc. to make it smell.

Old School Catfish Dip Bait Recipes

Making your own catfish bait is both fun, and cost-effective. There are 1000s of recipes out there, but here are some of my favorites. Feel free to mix and match. Be creative.

Cheesy Minnow Bait

Add flour to thicken, then work into a dough and place in baggies. To use, roll intoin 1 inch balls and use on a treble hook.

Ictalurus Hor'deouvres
In 1/4 cup boiling water, add 3 beef bullion cubes. after they dissolve, add 3 oz of old lunch meat, and 3 Tablespoons of garlic salt and onion powder, 5 slices of bread, 4 Tablespoons of of melted peanut butter, 20 crackers. Place in a blender and mix. place in and airtight container in a cool place. Use as a ball on treble hook.

Ictalurus Pate

Mix 1 lb of aged in the sun chicken livers and 1 package of hot dogs together in a blender and mix. This may be best performed outside or with wife gone. In a gallon jug place a half a loaf of bread torn into bite size pieces, pour the liver and hot dog mix over it. add 2 cans of nacho cheese, 1 can corn, 1/4 bottle of Tabasco,and a dozen worms cut up, to the mix. next get rubber gloves and pour this mixture out and knead good until it gets thick and a dough like consistency. Store in the sun, in a large plastic container, and handle with care.

Cry Me A Liver Bait

Thaw out a package of frozen chicken livers. Lay liver out in layers, sprinkle a heafty amount of garlic salt on it. Add next layer so on and so forth until the liver is all used. When you get ready to use it dump the rest of the garlic salt in, stir, and go fishin. The salt will make the livers tough, and leather-like.. Use on a #2 Aberdeen hook.. You can substitute Anise, or Vanilla for the Garlic if you want to try something different.
